Cape Breton Music, Contradances and Cape Breton Sets
A night of participatory dancing open to beginners (all dances taught) and a featured display of Cape Breton step dance - all to the very best live music!
Andrea Beaton (fiddle), Troy MacGillivray (piano), Christine Morrison (step dance)
Andrea Beaton is the youngest member of a long family tradition of Cape Breton's best musicians on fiddle and piano. Apart from brilliant solo recordings, her playing was part of a recent Smithsonian recording documenting her family's rich musical talents. Troy MacGillvray, an award winning solo musician, plays fiddle, bass and piano and will play the latter to accompany Andrea this night. Christine Morrison of the Boston area is an American descendant of Cape Bretoners who brings step dance to its highest level, performing with the likes of Natalie MacMaster as well as performing at numerous festivals and concerts and teaching this style of dancing full-time.
